U.S. Department of Education Student Information Center Collaborates with Major Universities to Release Guidelines on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In the ever-evolving digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a significant driver of change in society, the economy, and the field of education. To ensure that AI technology plays a positive role in higher education, the U.S. Department of Education Student Information Center, in collaboration with major universities across the United States, has recently released guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence.
The release of these guidelines aims to assist educational institutions and students in harnessing AI technology to foster innovation in academic research, teaching, and student services. The guidelines seek to balance the potential and risks of AI technology, ensuring its reasonable and responsible application in the field of education.

Director of the U.S. Department of Education Student Information Center, stated, "AI technology presents tremendous opportunities for higher education, but also brings some potential challenges. Through collaboration with major universities, we aim to establish clear principles to guide schools and educators to exercise caution and wisdom in the use of AI technology."
These guidelines cover various aspects, including data privacy protection, algorithm transparency, fairness and inclusivity, academic integrity, among others. In particular, emphasis is placed on the importance of protecting student privacy, requiring educational institutions to adhere to strict privacy policies and legal regulations when collecting, storing, and using student data.
At the same time, the guidelines also stress the transparency and fairness of AI algorithms. Universities should ensure that the algorithms they use do not discriminate against or favor any specific group, while also ensuring that the workings and decision-making processes of the algorithms are transparent and explainable.
Upon the release of the guidelines, many universities have expressed their intention to actively respond and incorporate these principles into their policies and practices in future educational endeavors.
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, there is an urgent need in the education sector to establish clear guidelines to guide and regulate the application of AI in education. The collaboration between the U.S. Department of Education Student Information Center and major universities will take an important step towards achieving this goal, paving the way for future educational innovations.
